Scheer Levy

Scheer Levy’s love for Cal Poly and her drive to deepen her tax expertise led her to pursue the MST program after completing her undergraduate degree in Business Administration. A native of Huntington Beach, CA, Scheer valued the program as an opportunity to prepare for a long-term career in tax while enjoying another year in San Luis Obispo.

“I saw the MST as an opportunity to further my education and get better prepared for my career,” Scheer shared. “Plus, I loved my time living in San Luis Obispo during undergrad and wanted more time in such an incredible place.”

The MST program provided a strong foundation for Scheer’s work in the tax field. “The courses built on undergrad tax concepts and exposed us to diverse areas of the field,” she explained. “The research and communication skills I gained are invaluable and frequently used in my career.” The program’s winter internship was a highlight for Scheer, giving her practical experience that set her apart from her peers as a new hire.

Outside the classroom, Scheer was actively involved in several Jewish organizations and Greek Life on campus. She also participated in VITA, contributing to the community while gaining hands-on experience.

Since graduating, Scheer has completed her CPA exams and started her career at Grant Thornton, first as a Tax Associate in Orange County and later relocating to San Francisco, where she currently works as a Senior Tax Associate.

Her advice for current MST students? “Get to know your cohort. They are the people who truly understand what you’re going through, and leaning on each other makes the program much more enjoyable and manageable.”

Looking ahead, Scheer hopes to continue working in the tax and accounting field, whether in public accounting or on an internal tax team, while building on the strong foundation she developed at Cal Poly.
