Emily Hickman is an assistant professor of Accounting in the Orfalea College of Business. She has taught principles of managerial and financial accounting, cost accounting, as well as financial statement analysis and valuation. Getting to know her students as well as helping to open doors for their future employment are the two aspects of being a professor that Emily finds most rewarding.

After working as an analyst on the Executive Finance Strategy Team for Micron Technology, Emily pursued Master’s studies at Gonzaga University. She then earned her Ph.D. from Washington State University. After teaching for two years at the University of New Mexico, Emily joined the Orfalea College of Business in 2019. She was selected to attend the 2018 AAA New Faculty Consortium and the 2020 Deloitte TrueBlood Seminar, and she is a Deloitte J. Michael Cook Doctoral Fellow.

Her research interests include corporate governance, business ethics, corporate social responsibility reporting and assurance, as well as judgment and decision-making in accounting. Emily’s work has been published in Managerial Auditing Journal, Accounting and the Public Interest, Emerging Markets Review, Managerial Finance, Journal of Corporate Citizenship, and Journal of Economic Studies, among others. She has served as a reviewer for several journals and numerous AAA conferences. She also served as a panelist at the Daniel’s Ethics Workshop in 2018 and as a presenter and discussant at the 2019 AAA Ethics Research Symposium. In her spare time, Emily enjoys hiking with friends, jogging with her dog, Zook, and snowboarding.
